There’s no shortage of terrific books for infants online or in conventional stores. The usual baby books are the sturdy board kinds that teem with colorful pictures. Examples are Bright Baby First Words and My Big Word Book by Roger Priddy. Some baby books have built-in sounds or music or are paired with a CD such as The Thrift Store Bears Book. Still, there are others that encourage touching and discovery, with different textures, like Sassy Baby’s Sense-ations Book. A few volumes are soft and washable and can be attached to teethers, strollers and playpens, or read during bath time. Miss Gigi Mae Learns to Read: The Letter A is one.
Make sure you have a few books on hand to read to or with your son or daughter. Reading is a brilliant bonding activity for parent and child that also promotes little ones’ language and sensory development and skills. And it’s never too early to start your youngster’s love affair with books. As popular children’s author Rosemary Wells advises, “Read to your bunny often…and your bunny will read to you.”

They may not do much walking yet, but infants need shoes too. That’s why there are booties and other footwear for very young children. Typical baby shoes are soft-soled and slip on easily. The best kind are made from soft, pliable leather and are very comfortable. Many of these shoes use Velcro fasteners to keep them securely in place.
Pedoodles offers fabulous footwear for babies and toddlers. Its First Feet Collection has impressive Pedflex flat rubber soles that provide great durability and traction outdoors. The shoes come in six cool colors, and in small to extra large sizes for newborns and toddlers up to 2-years-old. Each pair is matched with a fun, embroidered animal character too, besides being flexible and breathable. For older children, there’s Pedoodles’ equally outstanding Next Steps Collection. These hip juvenile shoes have closed and open-toed versions and may be used for dressy or informal occasions. As in the First Feet Collection, all shoes are enhanced with Pedflex flat rubber soles. Most rely on Velcro closures as well so no need to worry about laces to tie or coming undone.
